On Tuesday evening we joined over a 100 women in the House of Commons as the very proud sponsors of WeAreTheCity’s Top 50 Rising Stars Awards. These awards were introduced to showcase the pipeline of female talent in the UK and to create role models across 10 different industries and professions.
As the sponsors for the Rising Starts in HR & Recruitment, our Director Ak Kaur had the pleasure of presenting our winners with their award and with over 340 entries and over 15,000 votes cast it really was a fantastic achievement for all the winners.
Here at Twenty we don’t just talk about the need to for a diverse workforce across the city. We are actively trying to challenge and change a culture that holds women back and supporting these awards are just one way we invest in developing and promoting the female pipeline.
Our sponsor trophy is now taking pride of place in our office and you will see that our employees are very proud of the work we do as a business to prioritise and promote diversity.

Angela Cooke | PwC
Angela is an experienced HR professional with specialist in diversity, inclusion and employee wellbeing at PwC. Angela is a trusted business advisor with the business and works with senior managers across the organisation to create inclusive and diverse working environments. She also leads on PwC’s long term behaviour change campaign ‘Open Mind’, which focuses on unconscious bias. This campaign has transformed the attitudes and behaviours of partners and staff at PwC and though the leadership shown has brought in £150k of investment for the firm.
Becky Rodgers | C & C Search
Becky started her career in HR and Operations within a luxury property and interior design company and decided to make the transition into recruitment in February 2015. Specialising in sourcing and recruiting support staff from reception right through to Senior EA’s within a variety of sources. Becky has a strong knowledge of being the candidate, the client and the recruiter.
Mel Aston | Merlin Entertainments PLC
Mel currently works as Group Talent & Development co-coordinator, beginning 3 ½ years ago with her supporting the Group Talent & Development Director and the rest of the team on admin and the logistics of the global programmes, with no previous HR experience. Mel has grown and developed her role enormously. Her duties include working within a small team that delivers Leadership and Management programmes to a global business with over 100 attractions in 23 countries. Mel also works with HR Director’s and L&D Mangers around the globe and external suppliers. Working closely with the Group HR Director and Executive Diversity Champions, Mel ensures that improving Diversity is a priority across the business.
Mitra Janes | DLA Piper
Last year, Mitra moved to the City from Ford Motor Company to take up a newly-established Diversity and Inclusion role at DLA Piper, one of the world’s largest corporate law firms. Her focus and specialism in Diversity and Inclusion stems from her passion for ensuing that everyone feels valued and included and has an opportunity to contribute. She has a clear strategic vision of improved diversity within the legal sector and society more broadly. She has developed and implemented a number of initiatives focussed on developing the female pipeline. Outside of work, Mitra is a school governor at a girl’s secondary school and is committed to inspiring future generations of women to achieve their full potential.
Rosa Goncalves | Kidbrooke Community Enterprises
Rosa is an entrepreneur in community development and regeneration. Whilst raising her 3 children she qualified and worked a child minder. Her current project is focused on developing her signature brand, Kidbrooke Community Enterprise (KCE), with little to no funding. Back then its work focused on ensuring the Kidbrooke community benefited from the regeneration of the area. Today, KCE is going through many changes, with a new board of directors working with Rosa to further develop the brand to other areas of Greenwich and London.
